View Full Version : anyone having problems with vapor lock
my new tm-4 has a problem with the engine running out of gas
in approx 25 mile trip the tomcar stalled out 16 times especially when the car is running for a while
after looking deeper into the problem I found the clear fuel filter from the tank to the fuel filter was empty and the metal fuel filter was extremely HOT removing the fuel line from the metal fuel filter released high pressure air like and some fuel, then I keyed the ignition approx 4 times and fuel started flowing again. I have to do this about every 2 or so miles to get back to my truck.
Anybody else have this problem

dom, Is your tm a 4cyc. and is it EFI. after the filter should be the metal fuel pump? you may need to check the hose's for air leaks. Is the car new. how about the warrant on it. later.
I think Tom Car repaired the problem
A friend of mine has 4 Tomcar in the grand canyon area unit 13b and all were having the same problem
Tomcar took mine back last week and replaced both rear radiator fans
the big change is the fans now blow in reverse, actually sucking air from inside the engine out causing the engine compartment to run cooler stopping the vapor lock problem
I am gonna test mine this weekend and report back to Tomcar Sunday Eric gave me his personal cell phone # to call and report any good or bad news
I have to say Tomcar jumped into this problem with both feet and were dedicated in finding the problem
GREAT JOB TOMCAR

Hey there, Vapor lock shouldnt be a problem with these as the fuel line is well insulated and away from a heat source. If not, move it! I think the problem you are having is the fuel cap not venting. I have had to turn it a 1/2 turn open to allow proper venting. Mine is a carburated unit and i found this to be an issue when i run through the mud, check out facebook videos under yornxt to see what i mean. Just remove the cap and clean it out at its vent hole or turn it out a bit. Happy trails!

I had experienced this, as well, with my caburated unit. I also figured out that my caps weren't ventilating, as they needed to. Blew them out and partly solved the problem. I changed out my fuel filter and was good to go.
well mine is a fuel injected model and tom car fixed the problem by installing 2 new cooling fans that actually blow the air from inside the engine out ( it was originally set up to force outside air inside the engine compartment) my fuel filter is only approx 3 inches from the exhaust header and I have personally moved it farther away.
so far one trip partially thru crown king and no problems yet
thanks
Dom
